Sri T. Satish U Pai

A strong proponent of the philosophy that the future is not "waiting to happen" but needs to be "created", Sri Satish U Pai joined the family run Manipal Power Press during the year 1957 that was co-founded by his father Sri T. Upendra Anath Pai and his uncle Dr. Tonse Madhav Anantha Pai.

While the press over the years has grown to be recognized as one of the largest and most comprehensive printing solutions companies of global acclaim, the Manipal Group of which it is a constituent company, is today a multi-business organisation with a global footprint, focusing on end-to-end solutions in printing, publishing, manufacturing and exports, retail, power, infrastructure and more.

Sri T. Satish U. Pai was born in Manipal in 1941., coincidentally on the same year that also saw the birth of Manipal Power Press that is now Manipal Press Ltd. Under the mentership and able guidance of Sri Mohandas Pai (eldest son of Dr. TMA Pai), Sri Satish Pai carved out the strong foundations for the growth of The Manipal Group that stands tall with a gross turnover of Rs. 1200 crores and deploys a highly motivated and competent workforce of over 5,000 employees.One of Sri Satish Pai's distinctive achievements has been in poineering printing of MICR cheques and drafts for Indian and multinational banks as RBI's first empanelled Security Printer. Today, Manipal Press is the largest private sector security printer in the country.The Press is also the largest producer of Pre-paid Telephone Cards with 55% market share manufacturing over 3.5 million cards per day for leading mobile telephone companies in the country.
Sri Satish Pai is also the Managing Director of Manipal Media Network Limited (a brain child of Sri Mohandas Pai) that publishes five leading media brands- Udayavani, the National Kannada Daily, Tushara, Roopatara, Taranga and Tunturu - all leaders in their own segment.
The leading Kannda Daily, Udayavani of which Sri Pai is the Managing Editor, has bagged several National Awards for Excllence in printing and layout. Udayavani was the First Daily newspaper in Coastal Karnataka to intoroduce Linotype Pacer Web Offset printing during the year 1970. Udayavani commands a position of leadership in Coastal Karnataka with a market share of over 60%.
Sri Satish Pai has won several awards for excellence in printing like Mudrana Rathna, Life time achievement award from Karavali Printer Association in 2004, Aryabhata Award in 2006, and Citation by KOPA on November 29, 2008, Swatantra Veera Savarkar Award 2001, Shree Krishna Mukhya Prana Award, Vishweshwariah Navarathna Award in 2006.
Sri Satish Pai's achievements in the printing and publishing industry have earned him the position of Executive Committee Member of the highly prestigious Indian Newspaper Society.
Sri Satish Pai commands such wide network of contacts that he is on the adminstrative body of every concern or establishment in Manipal. Real Estate organisations like Canara Land Investments, Financial Agencies like ICDS, Media Networks like Manipal Media Network (of which is the MD), Information Companies like Infotech, have him on the Board of Directors. He is the partner in many firms like Manipal Security Printers, Secretary or Member of the Trust of many service organisations and educational Indstitutions like the Dr. T. M. A Pai Foudnation and M.G.M College.
Sri Satish Pai has travelled widely, visiting United Kingdom, United States of America, Russia, Europe and Japan. He has undergone training in Printing, Technology with Roland Offsetmaschinenfabrik Faber & Schleichar AG in West Germany and has also attended many Internationaal Printing exhibitions like DRUPA, IPEX, etc.
The exposure he gained from attending such exhibitions widened his outlook to a large extent and led to the digitalisation of the press several years ahead of the others without sacrificing his concern for the community. Today, in Manipal Press, Sri Pai has successfully achieved a combined, balanced utilization of both human resources and machinery.
Despite his enormous success, Sri Pai remains a simple man, approachable by all his people. His eagerness to help people makes him a popular manager and his modesty sets a fine example to follow. His belief in equal opportunity is evident in the 300 strong women force working in the Manipal Press.
His son, Sri Gautham Pai ably takes his legacy and vision forward through a well chartered course of expansions, Joint Ventures and acquisitions. Sri Gautham Pai has earned an enviable reputation amongst colleagues and customers alike for displaying a rare balance of strategic insight, operational expertise, new technology adaptablity and sales & marketing savvy.
Mr. Pai likes to spend his free time with his family. His wife, Smt. Sandhya Pai has been a source of constant support and a higly respected achiever in the journalism field. His daughter Nandana, now residing in the US also has a jounalism degree, thus completing a family of adept communicators.
Sri Pai also greatly enjoys philately, travel, music and printing technology
